How many bunk beds fit in a 40ft container
A standard 40ft high-cube container (40HQ) has about 68 cubic metres of usable volume. A typical knock-down (KD) metal bunk bed ships in one or two flat cartons of roughly 0.10-0.13 CBM each. Dividing usable volume by carton volume gives about 55-70 bunk-bed sets per 40HQ, depending on carton size and how tightly they stack. A 20ft container holds roughly 25-32 sets.

The example carton (2.0 x 1.0 x 0.15 m = 0.30 CBM) is a common size for a twin-over-twin bunk. Single beds and triple beds use different cartons, so ask for a model-specific plan.
How to compute your own load
- Get the carton dimensions (mm) from the product spec.
- Multiply L x W x H and divide by 1,000,000,000 to get CBM per carton.
- Divide 68 (40HQ) or 28 (20ft) by that CBM, then apply a 85-90 percent stacking factor.
- For mixed containers, sum each model volume and compare against the container limit.
Why flat-pack matters for freight
