Dormitory Furniture
Zehao manufactures steel dormitory furniture — bunk beds, triple tiers, loft beds with desks, lockers and shelving — for worker camps, student housing and staff accommodation. Factory in Tianjin since 1999. 400 kg per deck, 250 bunk beds per 40HQ, 25-35 day lead time.
What counts as dormitory furniture
A dormitory fit-out is not a bed order. It is a density problem: how many berths fit in the room, how much storage each occupant gets, and how the whole set arrives in one container. The four components that decide the outcome are the bed, the storage, the circulation space and the packing plan.
| Component | What it does | Typical spec | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bunk bed | Two berths per footprint | 400 kg per deck, 1.2 mm deck panel | Halves the floor area per occupant |
| Triple tier | Three berths per footprint | Reinforced frame, fixed ladder | Highest density; needs ceiling height check |
| Loft bed with desk | Sleep above, study below | Integrated desk and shelf | Removes the need for separate desks |
| Locker / shelving | Personal storage | Ventilated doors, padlock hasp | Reduces clutter and theft claims |

Specifications that decide whether it survives
Dormitory furniture fails in three places: the weld at the corner, the deck panel, and the floor anchoring. These are the numbers we build to, and the numbers to put in your purchase specification.
| Item | Our standard | What to check in a sample |
|---|---|---|
| Deck load | 400 kg per deck | Ask for the test report, not the catalogue claim |
| Deck panel | 1.2 mm steel deck panel | Panel thickness with a caliper at the centre, not the edge |
| Frame weld | 50 mm deep-in weld, 38 mm minimum weld length | Weld length at the corner joint; look for burn-through |
| Floor anchoring | 140 x 140 x 6 mm foot plate with size-17 bolts | Foot plate thickness and bolt grade |
| Net weight | 45-46 kg net per bunk | Under 40 kg usually means thinner steel |
Frames are tested to EN 747-1 for general contract use. Note that EN 747-1:2024 explicitly excludes prisons, military and fire service use — institutional specifications are quoted separately against the buyer's own standard.
Container maths
Most first orders are decided by this number, not by unit price. A 40HQ holds 250 bunk beds (500 berths) when packed flat. Triple tiers pack at a different ratio and usually reduce total berths per container despite the higher density per room.
| Configuration | Per 40HQ | Berths per container |
|---|---|---|
| Bunk bed, flat packed | 250 sets | 500 |
| Triple tier, flat packed | Quoted per model | Check with engineering |
| Bunk bed + locker, mixed | Reduced bed count | Quoted per mix |
Mixed loading with lockers or mattresses is possible and usually lowers total freight per berth.

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order for dormitory furniture?
50 sets per model. Mixed models in one container are accepted, and a trial order below 50 sets is possible for first-time buyers who cover the sample freight.
How many berths fit in a 40HQ container?
250 bunk beds, or 500 berths, when packed flat. Triple tiers and mixed loads with lockers change the ratio and are quoted per configuration.
Can you supply beds and lockers in the same container?
Yes. Mixed loading is normal for dormitory projects. Send the berth count and locker count and we return a loading plan showing what fits.
Do you supply mattresses?
Yes, household grade and medical grade. Mattresses compress-packed take container space, so they are planned together with the beds rather than added afterwards.
What is the lead time for a dormitory project?
25-35 days after deposit for standard models. Projects above 2,000 sets are scheduled in batches and the delivery plan is agreed before production starts.
