Refugee Shelter and Camp Bunk Beds
Knock-down steel bunk beds for refugee camps, displacement sites, emergency shelters and NGO staff accommodation — SGS tested to 200 kg per berth and packed so high-volume programmes land at a controlled freight cost per berth.
We are Tianjin Zehao Furniture Co., Ltd., a metal bed manufacturer operating a 20,000 m² production site with monthly capacity above 8,000 steel bed sets. We hold ISO 9001:2015 and supply SGS test documentation with every institutional order. Predominantly, our project experience is in African and Asian markets, including 1,050 sets delivered to Malawi and 1,500 sets to Guinea.
Relief and shelter accommodation asks three questions of a bed: how many arrive per container, how fast can they be stood up on site, and what documentation can be handed to the donor. This page answers all three.
Why shelter programmes source from Zehao
- Freight cost per berth — Knock-down flat-pack multiplies container load against assembled frames — approximately 55–70 bunk cartons per 40ft high-cube.
- Site assembly without specialists — The knock-down design assembles with standard hand tools; illustrated instructions and a hardware kit ship in every carton.
- Capacity that matches programme timelines — 8,000+ sets per month from a single production site, with lead time confirmed against your target delivery window.
- Documentation for donor reporting — SGS load-test reports, EN 747-1:2024 and EN 1725 conformity documents, CE declaration and ISO 9001:2015.
Handling is the cost that catches shelter programmes out. Beds that cannot be broken down for onward road transport, or that need lifting equipment at the site gate, quietly consume the budget the freight saving created. Flat-pack cartons sized for light-truck and pallet handling avoid that.

Mattresses for high-turnover accommodation
Where beds are reallocated between occupants, the mattress is the component that has to survive cleaning. Our standard institutional mattress is 10 cm thick at 28 kg/m³ density, with a PVC cover option that can be wiped down between occupants — normally the preferred choice for shelter, medical and transit accommodation. Mattress line items can be quoted on the same order and shipped in the same container as the frames.
Applications we quote for

| Field hospitals and medical camps | Single or twin, cleanable powder-coat finish, PVC-covered mattresses |
| Labour and construction camps | Heavy-duty twin bunk, high-volume orders |
| Government resettlement housing | Twin-over-twin, tender documentation package |
Documents issued with a shelter bed order
| Document | What it is used for |

Construction and standard detail for the frames is on the metal bunk beds page; certification detail is on the certifications page.
How a shelter order is specified
- Send the berth count and the delivery window — Quantity and required arrival date drive the whole plan. If only a population figure is available, we can work from that.
- Confirm the configuration for the space available — Twin-over-twin or triple tier. Triple tier maximises berths per square metre; twin-over-twin is easier to manage in low-rise layouts.
- State the destination country and port of entry — This determines the container plan, the onward transport options and the customs documents required.
- Name the standard and documentation your donor requires — Documentation is requested at the reporting stage, not the ordering stage. Naming it early means it can be issued with the shipment.
- Receive a specification sheet, loading plan and quotation — One combined quotation covering frames, mattresses and storage, with berths per container stated.

Frequently asked questions
How fast can you produce a large shelter order?
Monthly capacity is above 8,000 sets from a single production site, with the production lead time confirmed at quotation stage against your target delivery window. For emergency programmes, state the required arrival date and we will confirm what scheduling is achievable.
How do the beds ship, and how many fit in a container?
All frames ship knock-down flat-packed in cartons. A 40ft high-cube container holds approximately 55 to 70 bunk-bed cartons depending on model, which keeps freight cost per berth low — the decisive number on a high-volume shelter programme.
Can the beds be assembled on site without specialist tools?
Yes. The knock-down design assembles with standard hand tools, and illustrated assembly instructions plus a hardware kit are supplied per carton.
Do you supply documentation for donor and tender reporting?
Yes. We provide SGS load-test reports, EN 747-1:2024 and EN 1725 conformity documents, CE declaration and the ISO 9001:2015 certificate.
What load capacity and standards do the frames meet?
Every frame is SGS tested to 200 kg per berth and built to EN 747-1:2024 and EN 1725, which is the durability level expected in high-occupancy shelter environments.
Can you combine beds, mattresses and storage in one shipment?
Yes. Mixed-SKU containers are standard, which lets a shelter package be consolidated as one shipment and still reach the MOQ threshold on each item.
What mattresses do you supply for shelter accommodation?
Standard mattress specification is 10 cm thickness at 28 kg per cubic metre density, with a PVC cover option that can be wiped down between occupants — usually the preferred choice for high-turnover shelter and medical accommodation.
How are the beds packed for long onward transport inland?
Cartons are sized for standard pallet and light-truck handling, with foam corner protection in a 5-layer export carton, so consignments can be broken down for onward road transport without repacking.
Tell us the berth quantity, destination country, required delivery window and the documentation your programme needs, and we reply with a specification sheet, a container loading plan and a quotation.
